Medical grade TPU product performance and application field

TPU is widely used in biomedical field because of its good biocompatibility and mechanical properties. Its use in the medical field has become various, the main products are artificial heart aid devices, artificial blood vessels, artificial skin and so on. Medical TPU has the advantages of flexibility, wear resistance, high compatibility, no deformation, no allergic reaction, good blood compatibility, and does not affect the blood composition, and is widely used in the medical field.

With the progress and development of society, polymer materials represented by PVC and TPU have become the most commonly used biomedical materials. Meanwhile, the application of polymer materials in in vitro diagnostic equipment is becoming more and more important.

Artificial heart aid device

Because of its critical position, artificial heart assistance devices have very strict requirements on their performance and production materials. They do not damage blood cell components, produce no toxins and allergic reactions, do not cause harmful immune reactions, do not release electrolytes, and do not damage adjacent tissues. Clinical trials tell us that TPU has many performance advantages over natural rubber and silicone, such as blood compatibility and durability.

Because of its mechanical stability, biocompatibility and elasticity, TPU is also often used to prepare medical catheters, such as infusion tubes and artificial catheters. The gastroscope hose has high performance requirements, sufficient elasticity and flexibility without adverse side effects, consistent catheter diameter, no bending and deformation. The surface of the catheter needs to be smooth. The gastroscopic tube made by TPU meets the above requirements and medical requirements.

TPU tracheal intubation is lightweight and flexible, convenient for clinical use, patients can move freely and comfortably, can prevent radiation damage to the human body, conducive to treatment and diagnosis, can replace metal tracheal intubation, is one of the most advanced medical instruments in the world.

Medical film

Traditional PE, PVC film has the advantages of waterproof, anti-liquid seepage. They are popular in medical treatments such as wound dressings and surgical procedures, but they have the defect of not excreting sweat produced by the body's metabolism in a timely manner, causing discomfort such as heat, cold and wet. Therefore, a new medical film is urgently needed to replace such products.

Polyurethane elastomer medical film was prepared by spraying pressure sensitive adhesive on the surface of polyurethane elastomer film. Compared with traditional PE and PVC medical film,  TPU medical film has the characteristics of soft, good skin affinity, high elasticity, strong moisture permeability, 100% waterproof and so on, which can effectively prevent the film from falling off during surgery. Inhibit the transfer of various pathogens during the operation. Such as orthopedic surgery, heart valve replacement, intravenous indwelling needle, abdominal and thoracic catheterization, spinal fluid shunt surgery, can significantly reduce the infection rate.

There is also a waterproof antibacterial medical polyurethane elastomer, made of medical protective gloves have good mechanical properties, water resistance and air permeability, can resist the invasion of Gram-positive and negative bacteria.

Medical artificial skin

Artificial skin can be made from TPU foam because of its excellent air permeability, speed up the growth of the skin, and prevent water and inorganic salts from leaking from the damaged parts, and prevent bacterial infection. Natural latex is often used to make medical gloves, but for some users, latex can cause an allergic reaction. However, polyurethane elastomer can be made into medical gloves by adjusting its molecular structure. Therefore, polyurethane elastomer can be used as a new raw material for medical gloves, which can replace the original medical gloves made of natural latex.

Compared to MDI-based TPU, polyurethane elastomer gloves have many advantages, such as resistance to aging, discoloration of traditional latex gloves after a period of use, resistance to allergic reactions, and closer to the skin.

Other fields

At present, TPU in China's medical field has some achievements, such as the successful development of shape memory polyurethane elastomer, with body temperature shape memory polyurethane elastomer, thermoplastic polyurethane film composite textile can be used to produce anti-allergy gloves and band-Aids. Amphoteric biodegradable medical polyurethane elastomers were prepared under mild reaction conditions.

In addition, good results have been achieved in prosthetic limbs, cartilage, separation membranes, medical sutures, family planning products, etc
